ragging essay in 400 word

                           ragging

The word 'ragging' has come in common parlance to mean torture of junior students at the hands of senior ones.

Over the years it has emerged as a great terror in educational institutions.

Ragging is said to have been introduced for the sake of the wellfare of students.

New students joined colleges and universities with little frankness.

They fought shy of expressing their problems. Senior students held a kind of mock interviews by asking them some comic questions.

It has taken the form of practice which has degenerated ever since.

Students shiver at the mention of the word itself.

Ragging is practised as a kind of inhuman punishment for nothing.

Junior students are forced to sing and dance for long especially against their sweet will.

They have to smoke and drink. In some cases they are forced to drink urine. Some other students are branded with burning cigarettes.

Many other students are stripped naked and are made to wrestle with their class-mates or play some other game.

Of late there have been reports of sexual abuses, too. Such torture is untolerable and many students commit suicide out of humiliation.

The cases of ragging have risen so horribly that the Supreme Court of India has had to issue strict guidelines to educational institutions across the country.

Ragging should be stamped out with an iron hand.

It warrants a strict legislation. The government alone cannot do much.

Teachers and guardians should try to inculcate humane attitude among students.

If this malpractice is not checked today, it will vitiate the academic atmosphere in the country and spoil the career of promising students.

This vicious circle must be broken so that the victims today may not turn victimisers tomorrow.
