Because of this reason, they suffer
from protein, vitamin, and micronutrient deficiencies diseases or "hidden hunger".
For this reason the breeding of crops with higher levels of vitamins and minerals or with healthier fats is called biofortification.
This is the very good practice to improve the health of mankind.
Plant breeding is done because of their improved nutritional quality, Following are the main objectives for the improvement:
(1) Protein contents and its quality.
(ii) Vitamin contents.
(iii) Micronutrients and mineral contents.
(iv) Oil contents and their quality.
As already mentioned in this text that
our Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) developed many vegetable crops that are rich in minerals and vitamins.
